The Kansas State University track and field teams will participate in their only regular season road meet at the Tyson Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas, on February 14-15. The event takes place at the Randal Tyson Track Center. Tickets for the meet start at $16, and it will be available to stream both days on SEC Network+.
Friday’s events begin at noon with the men’s 60-meter hurdles preliminaries, followed by the men’s pole vault at 1 p.m. Saturday’s schedule starts with women’s pole vault at 10:30 a.m., and continues with the men’s 5,000 meters on the track from 11 a.m.
Friday is also part of the World Athletics Indoor Tour Silver, featuring championship races in three track events—the 60-meter dash, 60-meter hurdles, and 400 meters—as well as three field events: men’s and women’s long jump, men’s high jump, and women’s triple jump.
Four K-State athletes are set to compete in these World Athletics Silver field events: sophomore Uroy Ryan (men’s long jump), junior Maud Zeffou-Poaty (women’s long jump), senior Devin Loudermilk (men’s high jump), and junior Aaron Antoine (men’s triple jump).
According to USTFCCCA week three rankings released on February 10, Kansas State’s men’s team remains ranked first nationally with 138.77 points. Tennessee follows in second place with 129.51 points, while Oregon holds third with 117.61 points. The women’s team moved up one spot to fourteenth nationally with a total of 57.45 points.
Junior Tah Chikomba was recognized as Big 12 Men’s Athlete of the Week on February 4—marking the first time a Wildcat has received this honor since February 2020. Chikomba’s season-best long jump of 8.09 meters currently ranks him second in NCAA men’s long jump standings and first within the Big 12 conference; it is also listed as seventh best worldwide by World Athletics.
The Wildcats most recently competed at home during the DeLoss Dodds Invitational on January 30-31, which included several World Athletics sanctioned Bronze events hosted at Cliff Rovelto Indoor Track.
Senior Vanessa Mercera won the women’s pentathlon at that event with a score of 4,429 points—a performance that still leads all NCAA competitors this season. Junior Vienna Lahner broke Kansas State’s women’s mile record by running a time of 4:38.84; she surpassed Deb Pihl Torneden’s previous mark from 1983.
