WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted in favor of H.R. 8580, the Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2025. The bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 209-197 and provides funding for military construction and family housing, the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), and other related agencies.

“Our gratitude and support for our military service members cannot end once they remove their uniform,” said Rep. Mann. “As the federal representative for the more than 41,000 veterans in the Big First, I proudly voted in favor of this bill that responsibly funds veterans’ health care programs, benefits, and VA programs while cutting wasteful, partisan spending from the Biden Administration. I am hopeful that Congress will continue to consider Fiscal Year 2025 appropriations legislation before the September 30 deadline instead of waiting until the last hour and depending on a continuing resolution to fund the government. Today’s vote was a good step in returning to regular order, reining in our reckless spending, and getting America back on track.”

The Military Construction, Veterans Affairs, and Related Agencies Appropriations Act for Fiscal Year 2025 includes several key provisions:

– Fully funds veterans’ health care programs, benefits, and VA programs.
– Prohibits the closure of Guantanamo Bay and the use of military construction funds to build facilities for detainees on U.S. soil.
– Stops taxpayer dollars from being used for abortion.
– Protects veterans’ Second Amendment rights by preventing the VA from sending information to the FBI without judicial consent.
– Bans the VA from processing claims for illegal immigrants.

The act is one of 12 appropriations packages before the U.S. House of Representatives and will now be sent to the U.S. Senate for further review.

In the 117th Congress, Rep. Mann served on the House Veterans’ Affairs Committee and as the Republican Leader for its Oversight and Investigations Subcommittee.
