U.S. Representative Tracey Mann, along with U.S. Senators Deb Fischer and Joni Ernst, have taken a stand against a proposed rule by the Biden Administration’s Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) that would impact meat and poultry processing and rendering facilities.

In a letter addressed to U.S. EPA Administrator Michael Regan, the members expressed their concerns about the proposed rule, stating, “This costly and technically complex proposed rule would burden hundreds of meat, poultry, and rendering facilities with unnecessary red tape.”

Representative Mann criticized the proposed rule, stating, “It is irresponsible for the Biden Administration to propose burdensome federal regulations like this, which diminish processing options for producers, eliminate rural jobs, and reduce product availability for consumers.”

The letter urges the EPA to withdraw the proposed rule and emphasizes the importance of working collaboratively with the regulated community in any future rulemaking to safeguard America’s food system.

Individuals and organizations affected by the rule are encouraged to participate in the public hearing scheduled for March 20 and submit their comments to the EPA by March 25, 2024.

The EPA will consider stakeholder input before finalizing the rule, aiming to address the concerns raised by industry stakeholders and lawmakers.
