U.S. Representative Tracey Mann of Kansas recently addressed the U.S. House of Representatives, urging President Biden to uphold America's leadership on the global stage as his presidency nears its end. Rep. Mann's speech followed a call with 17 other colleagues for President Biden to reject a United Nations proposal that could potentially strengthen China's influence and weaken American leadership.
In his remarks, Rep. Mann criticized what he described as the Biden Administration’s weak foreign policy, which he believes has allowed adversaries like China, Russia, and Iran to take advantage of the United States. He expressed concern over America’s diminished security and reputation among allies due to these policies.
Rep. Mann cited President Biden's handling of the Afghanistan withdrawal as an example of failed foreign policy, contrasting it with former President Trump's Doha agreement which required Taliban compliance on curbing terrorist activities. According to Rep. Mann, President Biden withdrew troops without securing such conditions or a long-term strategy.
He further criticized President Biden's approach towards Iran, stating that it emboldened Iranian-backed militias and proxies like Hamas against Israel. In contrast, he praised former President Trump’s maximum pressure strategy on Tehran.
Rep. Mann also highlighted concerns about China's growing influence in international organizations such as the United Nations’ Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). He noted that recent proposals could increase Chinese control over entities like the World Food Programme during a critical political transition period in the U.S.
Quoting Dwight D. Eisenhower on leadership strength, Rep. Mann emphasized his belief that American leadership should not be passive or accommodating towards communism.
Rep. Mann concluded by expressing optimism about future U.S. foreign policy under an anticipated Republican majority in Congress and former President Trump's potential return to office.
