U.S. Representatives Tracey Mann and Jimmy Panetta, co-chairs of the Congressional FFA Caucus, alongside Representatives Glenn Thompson and Suzanne Bonamici, led 61 colleagues in introducing a resolution to designate February 15-22 as National FFA Week. Senators Todd Young and Chris Coons introduced the legislation in the Senate.
"This week, current and past FFA members will reflect on the impact of the National FFA Organization and its role in shaping the next generation of leaders in food and agriculture," said Rep. Mann. He emphasized the influence of wearing "the blue jacket" and expressed pride in introducing this resolution.
Rep. Panetta noted that while agricultural communities recognize young farmers' contributions year-round, this resolution highlights their impact nationwide. "FFA provides the knowledge, leadership skills, and hands-on experience necessary to sustain and advance our nation’s food security," he added.
Chairman Thompson highlighted nearly a century of FFA's influence on future agricultural professionals. "National FFA Week celebrates the young men and women who are the future of agriculture," he stated.
Rep. Bonamici underscored agriculture's importance to Oregon's economy: "FFA prepares students to enter meaningful careers in farms, ranches, vineyards, and dairies."
Senator Young acknowledged FFA's role in developing Indiana's future leaders: "The lessons, tools, and resources gained through the FFA program equip Indiana’s future leaders with the skills needed to succeed."
Senator Coons spoke about Delawareans learning through programs offered by Delaware FFA: "I’m thrilled to join my colleagues to reintroduce this bipartisan resolution honoring this vital organization."
National FFA Advisor Dr. Travis Park remarked on National FFA Week as a reminder of agricultural education's significance: “It’s a time of celebration and reflection as FFA members...come together to honor the impact of this extraordinary organization.”
Kansas FFA State President Jory Razlaff described it as a week filled with tradition: “This week serves as a reminder for all FFA members...of experiences created while wearing the blue corduroy jacket.”
The National FFA Organization is comprised of over 1 million student members across more than 9,000 local chapters nationwide. Recently confirmed U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Brooke Rollins is noted for her history as a state FFA officer.
Reps. Mann and Panetta also relaunched the Congressional FFA Caucus with over 60 members aimed at enhancing school-based agricultural education relationships between Congress and future leaders.
Rep. Mann participates actively in supporting career technical education through his involvement with related legislative caucuses.
