U.S. Representative Tracey Mann of Kansas has voted in favor of advancing H.R. 21, known as the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. This legislation mandates that healthcare practitioners provide the same level of care to infants who survive an attempted abortion as they would to any other newborn. The bill also requires that these survivors be transported immediately to a hospital for further care and imposes criminal penalties for those who kill or deny care to abortion survivors.
The U.S. House of Representatives passed the bill with a vote count of 217-204.
Rep. Mann expressed his strong support for the bill, stating, "Every life, born or unborn, has value and is worthy of protection." He added, "I will always defend the right to life, and I’m grateful to see this bill passed in the U.S. House of Representatives."
Rep. Mann's record shows consistent advocacy for pro-life policies. In December 2023, he opposed using taxpayer money for reimbursing abortion travel expenses for Department of Defense employees. Earlier in May 2023, he was against a taxpayer-funded abortion hotline by the Biden-Harris Administration meant to facilitate referrals for abortions.
Additionally, Rep. Mann was an original cosponsor of the Born-Alive Survivors Protection Act during the 118th Congress and supported measures condemning attacks on pro-life facilities and organizations. He also praised the Supreme Court decision to overturn Roe v. Wade in June 2022.
H.R. 21 now moves forward to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
