U.S. Representative Tracey Mann addressed the House of Representatives to express concern over the national debt, which recently reached $36 trillion. Rep. Mann has consistently urged Congress to address this issue by passing individual appropriation bills and finding solutions for future generations.
In his prepared remarks, Rep. Mann stated, "Mr. Speaker, when I come to this floor, I often speak about how our brightest days are yet to come; about the next generation of Americans; and about the future we should be working to build for them." He criticized what he described as fiscal irresponsibility from the Biden Administration and Washington Democrats.
Rep. Mann highlighted that in November, America's national debt climbed to $36 trillion dollars and called it unsustainable: "Washington, D.C. has a spending addiction, and it’s just expected that Americans and future generations of Americans will pay for it."
He compared the national debt with household finances, noting that if every American household were to contribute towards paying off the debt, each would need to provide nearly $273,000.
Rep. Mann expressed frustration at Congress's approach to spending: "Our fiscal house is an utter disaster, and we need to get serious about finding solutions." He emphasized his efforts since joining Congress in advocating against excessive spending packages.
Reflecting on recent electoral outcomes, Rep. Mann said that on November 5th, 2024, America signaled a desire for change: "It’s time to get our fiscal house in order and get our country back on track."
He also praised President-elect Trump’s initiative in creating the Department of Government Efficiency as a step towards addressing these issues: "Mr. President...we will work with you to make our government work for people again; to make it efficient again; and to clean up our fiscal house."
Rep. Mann concluded with optimism about America's potential: "This challenge won’t be easy, but America is worth it...Our brightest days truly are yet to come."
