U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) addressed the U.S. House of Representatives to commend Kansas farmers, ranchers, and agricultural producers for their resilience during recent winter storms. He highlighted the challenges faced by the agricultural community in maintaining essential services.

"Mr. Speaker, last week in the nation’s capital, 6.8 inches of snow closed federal office buildings," Mann stated. "Nearly 1,300 miles away in Kansas, blizzards brought more than 18 inches of snowfall to parts of the Big First District."

Mann emphasized that despite harsh weather conditions, those involved in agriculture continued their work without pause. "When you answer the call to feed, clothe, and fuel the world, you’re required to show up—even when the temperatures outside are below freezing," he remarked.

He noted that his district is a significant agricultural hub with over 60,000 farms and various stakeholders contributing to its ecosystem. "These men and women don’t get a break," Mann said.

Mann acknowledged the unpredictability of weather patterns affecting agriculture: "Mother Nature is not a reliable business partner." He mentioned that earlier drought conditions had already posed difficulties for farmers before heavy snowfall occurred.

"In true Kansas fashion, families and neighbors came together to help one another in a time of need," Mann observed. He described how Kansans worked tirelessly to ensure livestock care during adverse conditions.

Reflecting on why individuals endure such challenges, Mann commented: "It’s a special calling that many families in my district have answered." He reminded listeners that food originates from dedicated agricultural workers rather than store shelves.

Mann concluded by expressing gratitude: "On behalf of Kansans and the nation, I thank these brave men and women for keeping us fueled, clothed and fed."
