U.S. Representative Tracey Mann of Kansas has voted in favor of H.R. 1156, the Pandemic Unemployment Fraud Enforcement Act. This legislation aims to extend the statute of limitations for prosecuting fraudulent COVID-19 unemployment claims, with the goal of recovering billions in taxpayer dollars and holding offenders accountable.

In a statement following the vote, Rep. Mann emphasized the support from Kansans for efforts to address fraudulent federal spending. "Kansans in the Big First overwhelmingly support President Trump’s efforts to rein in fraudulent federal spending," he stated. He highlighted ongoing investigations into unemployment insurance fraud, noting that there are nearly 1,700 open cases and over 157,000 complaints still under review by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Rep. Mann estimated that this fraud could have cost American taxpayers up to $135 billion. He stressed the importance of ensuring consequences for those who misuse taxpayer funds: "By extending the statute of limitations for prosecuting pandemic fraud claims, criminals and bad actors who abused federal dollars will be held accountable for their actions."

The bill was passed by a vote of 295-127 in the U.S. House of Representatives and will proceed to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
