U.S. Representative Tracey Mann of Kansas voted in favor of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which passed the U.S. House of Representatives with a narrow margin of 215-214. The bill aligns with priorities from Rep. Mann and former President Trump’s campaign, focusing on making permanent the 2017 tax cuts, securing borders, and reducing federal spending.
Rep. Mann stated: “On November 5, 2024, 77 million Americans gave Washington, D.C. a mandate to get our country back on track,” adding that House Republicans have fulfilled this mandate by implementing measures such as saving taxpayer dollars and preventing an average tax hike for Kansans next January.
The legislation aims to solidify the 2017 Trump tax cuts permanently, thereby protecting taxpayers from a potential 22% increase in January 2026. It also proposes eliminating taxes on tips, overtime pay, and car loan interest for American-made vehicles while providing additional relief for seniors.
Further provisions include expanding the small business deduction under section 199A to 23% permanently and increasing detention capacity for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE). The bill allocates funds to complete the border wall and enhance technology at ports of entry to combat drug trafficking and human smuggling.
In agriculture, it invests $60 billion in strengthening crop insurance programs and updating reference prices. Additionally, it closes loopholes allowing states to waive work requirements for government assistance programs.
The bill also includes appropriations of $12.5 billion for modernizing air traffic control systems under the Federal Aviation Administration and rescinds over $4 billion allocated to Biden-era programs deemed unnecessary.
With its passage in the House, the One Big Beautiful Bill Act now moves to the Senate for further deliberation.
