Today, U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) addressed the U.S. House of Representatives, advocating for a comprehensive Farm Bill that includes investments in animal health research and disease prevention. This follows the passage of the One Big Beautiful Bill Act, which supports the farm safety net and agricultural trade programs.
Rep. Mann emphasized the importance of passing a fiscally conservative five-year Farm Bill to provide stability to the agricultural sector. He highlighted Kansas' First District's key institutions like the National Bio and Agro-Defense Facility and Kansas State’s School of Veterinary Medicine as leaders in animal health research.
In his prepared remarks, Rep. Mann stated: "Mr. Speaker, in honor of the nation’s 249th birthday, House Republicans delivered the largest tax cut in our nation’s history for middle- and working-class families... The relief was long overdue and we’re grateful, but the work doesn’t stop there."
He stressed that Congress should pass a Farm Bill supporting agricultural R&D to prevent diseases like HPAI virus outbreaks: "By investing in agricultural research, we strengthen our food supply chain and, in turn, our national security..."
Rep. Mann urged prioritizing investments into animal health research to ensure food security is not compromised.
