Uhlin Records New Heptathlon Personal Best, Six Earn Top-Five Performances
The K-State men's and women's track and field teams competed in the second day of the Texas Tech Open & Multis on Friday (January 27) at the Sports Performance Center in Lubbock, Texas.
Sophomore Emil Uhlin competed in the last three events of the heptathlon where he ended with a new personal-best score of 5,710 points to place eighth in a highly competitive field. His total eclipsed the 5,639 points he scored at the 2022 Big 12 Championships. During the competition, he won the pole vault at 5.20m/17-0.75, another new personal best, while he also won the 1000 meters with a time of 2:41.76.
Georgia's Kyle Garland won the heptathlon with 6,415 points, right behind the world record of 6,499 points set by Ashton Eaton in 2010.
Six Wildcats finished in the top-five of a competitive field. Junior Kyle Gale ran in his first attempt at the 600 meters, finishing in the top-two with a time of 1:16.34 among 29 competitors. Junior Jesse Pinkley finished fifth in the men's pole vault with a height of 4.94m/16-2.50. Junior Kade McCall took fifth place in the men's weight throw with a throw of 20.67m/67-9.75.
Sophomore Monique Hardy finished fourth in the women's weight throw with a distance of 20.22m/66-4.25, junior Emma Robbins right behind her in fifth place at 19.87m/65-2.25. In a field of 69 runners in the women's 400 meter dash, juniors Shalysa Wray (5th; 53.97) and O'Shalia Johnson (9th; 54.48) both finished in the top-10.
Senior Vitoria Alves competed in two rounds of the women's 60 meter hurdles, the first round where she finished fifth in 8.37 seconds. In the final round of eight competitors, she finished sixth at 8.38 seconds.
K-State ran three teams in the distance medley relays (DMR) with the two men's squads finishing first and second, respectively, and the women's team of Sydney Burton, Hannah Stewart and freshmen Twaneise Johnson and Grace Meyer placing second in a time of 11:54.55. The K-State A team of Matthew Hauser, Jack Pakkebier, Will Carroll and Hadley Splechter earning a first-place finish with a time of 10:01.85, while the B team of Jack Vincent, Nicholas-Jean Moulin, Mike Rohlinger and Stephen Kielhofner was second in a time of 10:03.22.
