Scotties Backslide Into Final Week of Regular Season

The Highland Community College basketball programs had a rough week last week with both teams losing two games each. The Highland women's team lost at home on Wednesday to Johnson County 68-37. On Saturday, the women fell to Labette 81-42. The Highland men's team dropped Wednesday's matchup versus Johnson County 79-52, and lost Saturday at Labette on a last second shot 53-52.

Women's Basketball (18-11)

The Highland women's team suffered two of their worst shooting performances of the season. The ladies shot .259 from the floor and .161 from behind the three-point line in their home loss to Johnson County, while shooting .273 from the floor and .158 from behind the arc at Labette.

In the Johnson County game Courtney Davis was the lone bright spot for the struggling Scotties. Davis scored 14 points, shooting 6-13 (.461) from the field while the team shot 15-58 (.259) for the night.

Garneisha Love led all Scotties in scoring versus Labette with 10 points. The usually rock-solid Kenadi Rising fouled out after scoring 6pts and grabbing 7 rebounds.

Men's Basketball (14-14)

At home versus Johnson County, the Scotties were outmatched in nearly every statistical category. The visiting Cavaliers outpaced Highland in shooting percentages, rebounds, turnovers, and points off the bench.

Freshman forward Chris Flippin led all Scotties with 14 points. Greg Moore, coming off a 25-point performance versus KCKCC, added 10 points and grabbed 9 rebounds. Tymer Jackson of JCCC led all scoring with 20 points.

In the Labette game over the weekend, 3 separate Scotties scored double digits in the losing effort: Chris Flippin (14 pts), Greg Moore (13 pts), and RJ Sears (10 pts).

Overall, Highland shot better as a team but they still struggled from behind the arc, shooting 3-12 (.250). Turnovers turned out to be costly for the Scotties, losing the turnover battle 18-10 against Labette.

Highland Basketball returns to Ben Allen Field House on Wednesday for the final regular season games of the year versus the Larks of Hesston College.  Wednesday will also be Sophomore Recognition Night as we honor all our graduating sophomores before each game. Games start at 5:30pm and 7:30pm. As always, games will be streamed live on the Scottie Sports Network.
