U.S. Representative Tracey Mann (KS-01) voted to advance H.R. 7980, the End Chinese Dominance of Electric Vehicles in America Act of 2024. The legislation aims to prevent the Chinese Communist Party from benefitting from tax subsidies created for electric vehicles by Washington Democrats in August 2022. The act passed in the U.S. House of Representatives by a vote of 217-192.
Rep. Mann released a statement following the vote: "The Biden-Harris Administration’s Green New Deal policies have created a de facto electric vehicle mandate that ignores the facts and bullies American manufacturers," said Rep. Mann. "Two years ago, Washington Democrats rammed through an overtly partisan wish list that handcuffed U.S. manufacturing, expanded their ridiculous war on fossil fuels, and propped up Communist China at the cost of the American taxpayer. Washington Democrats chose again today to prop up the CCP on American’s dime, but House Republicans and I rejected that ridiculous notion. A communist regime that openly steals our intellectual property, violates basic human rights, and thwarts America’s interest in the world should not benefit from American tax incentives. Period."
Rep. Mann spoke on the floor of the U.S. House of Representatives to assert that America is not up for grabs and also supported legislation this week to protect U.S. farmland and intellectual property from China.
Since joining Congress, Rep. Mann has worked to hold Communist China accountable. In February 2022, he opposed House Democrats’ partisan COMPETES Act, which he argued failed to address China's malicious behavior or protect America's interests. Later that month, he urged the Biden-Harris Administration to balance the U.S.-China agricultural trade relationship more effectively. In July 2023, Rep. Mann voted for legislation supporting America's defense and countering the Chinese Communist Party's influence.
H.R. 7980 will now proceed to the U.S. Senate for further consideration.
